Wizards of the Coast announced their new pre-crafted adventure coming this September! With shenanigans and trickery galore, the new Waterdeep adventure is sure to be a hit!
Friday, June 1st, Wizards of the Coast announced during their three-day celebration titled Stream of Many Eyes, that their newest Dungeons & Dragons storyline was due to be released in September of this year. The company spared no expense in their live stream event, ending on Sunday June 3rd. The festivities range from celebrity guests to cosplays, even going as far as to decorate the entirety of the Hollywood studio into a pretty convincing Waterdeep replica; with plenty of memorable locations such as The Yawning Portal Inn and the Field of Triumph.
Those of us who are accustomed to the written adventures of Forgotten Realms and Faerun, are no strangers to Waterdeep or the more well-known characters, like Volo, Drizz’t and Elminster, who might make an appearance in the new Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. While, Dungeons & Dragons produce new adventures almost annually this particular addition is a bit different from the last.
According to Christoper Perkins, an editor and game designer for Wizards of the Coast, the new release is the first Dungeons & Dragons adventure that has some built-in down-time for its players. Perkins explained that there was a lot of new fun to be had in Dragon Heist, including plenty of NPCs (Non-player characters) and side activities, like running your own tavern, which provides plenty of opportunities for some great role-playing! While the game is not as combat-focused as many of the others, it more than makes up for the fact but its play options, allowing for a unique gaming experience with every play through.
Dragon Heist also gives the DM (Dungeon Master) a choice of one out of four villains at the start of the each game, which can have lasting effects on the campaign. Each choice impacts each session in some unforeseen ways, according to Perkins. While the adventure takes place in the city of Waterdeep from start to finish, which is a bit different from the usual play of the pre-crafted adventures produced by Wizards of the Coast, Adventures can be sure that there will be plenty of roguish tricks, barbarian shenanigans, and all around fun!
