In order to fight back against the trend of abusive behavior by players in multiplayer games, several companies has joined together to form a new organization called Fair Play Alliance. Their mission can be found here along with the companies involved!
“We provide an open forum for the games industry to collaborate on research and best practices that encourage fair play and healthy communities in online gaming. We envision a world where games are free of harassment, discrimination, and abuse, and where players can express themselves through play.”
The companies involved in this effort consistence of Twitch, Unity, Xbox, Discord, Blizzard, Epic and over 30 more.
In Blizzard’s Overwatch especially, they’ve been working to reduce the amount of toxic players that inhibit the gaming experience on other players. Jeff Kaplan himself has stated during Developer Updates how this is becoming a priority.
