The next two movies in the X-Men series, Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, are being pushed back to a later date. Earlier today 20th Century Fox had announced that several of their movies would be release on a later date than their original release.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix was originally set to hit in November of this year is now planned for release on February 14th, 2019. The movie is set ten years after X-Men: Apocalypse, where the team is sent to a space station to battle a new threat. The film will be directed by Simon Kinberg, with much of cast of Apocalypse returning.
The New Mutants is a side story of the X-Men movie series. The story follows five mutant teenagers who have been trapped in a secret government facility and must fight their way through to escape. Instead of being a regular action movie like the main X-Men films, New Mutants is styled more akin to a horror film. Originally heading to theaters on April 2nd 2018, movie is now set to release for on August 2nd, 2019.
From my understanding, studios only push a film back if the don’t believe it’s up to quality standards. Hopeful the extra time will give the directors the means to improve upon their work.
