The recent update to Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp had added a feature that adds an element of controversy into the game. Nintendo is implementing loot boxes to this mobile game. See the details here. This new feature is based on purchasable fortune cookies that will provide a random reward based on the amount of in-game currency. Since players are able to purchase currency with real money, this is essentially a loot box system. These fortune cookies are sold at three different tiers, with each tier costing more than the last. A major problem is that the packs of in-game currency one can buy are just barely enough to purchase the cookies, forcing some players to buy more than one. We will have to wait and see who the fan’s reactions unfold.
