J.K. Rowling Apologizes for this Death on the Battle of Hogwarts Anniversary

We’re heading towards that time again when the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts is upon us. During that time not only were countless lives lost in the series, but it’s a time for Harry Potter fans to mourn those remembered. This year, J.K. Rowling again apologized for the death of a loved character.

For this anniversary, J.K. Rowling apologized for the death of the beloved house elf Dobby, who served the Malfoy family until his release by Harry Potter in the Chamber of Secrets.

For those of you who might forget, Dobby died while rescuing Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Griphook the goblin from the Malfoy Mannor in the Deathly Hallows. He was apparating them out of the building when Bellatrix LeStrange through a knife and it hit him in the chest.

So, for this year, J.K. Rowling is apologizing for the death of Dobby, by publicly announcing it on Twitter.

It makes a lot of sense, as Dobby’s death like Hedwigs, was probably the most innocent and unnecessary within the series. We all felt great sadness to read and watch when Dobby died, understanding that all the innocence within Harry Potter is gone.

As a fresh reminder of those we lost during the Battle of Hogwarts, here’s a list:

  • Fred Weasley
  • Remus Lupin
  • Nymphadora Tonks
  • Colin Creevy
  • Severus Snape
  • Lavender Brown
  • Voldemort
  • Bellatrix LeStrange
  • Vincent Crabbe
  • Hedwig
  • Dobby
  • Alastor Moody
  • Peter Pettigrew
