RuneScape Classic Server Going Down; RIP Nostalgia

RuneScape Classic Server Going Down; RIP Nostalgia

For those of you who spent the early 2000s playing the web-based MMORPG RuneScape, it’s time to get out the tissue boxes and prepare yourselves. Jagex has announced after being up for 17 years, they are removing the RuneScape Classic version.

Jagex has supported RuneScape Classic, but the unfixable bug reports they receive alongside bots have gone beyond what they can handle through the community management tools.

“With advancements in technology helping to further support both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, our tools are no longer compatible with Classic. This is particularly a problem with our community safety and macro detection tools. The game is now easily abused with the use of 3rd party macro tools, and botting has become an increasing issue.

The number of bugs is getting worse, and we’re gradually seeing the game breaking. It’s important to highlight these are bugs which we won’t fix, most of them we can’t fix due to the unsupported nature of the game.”

RuneScape Classic is different from the other two versions known as RuneScape Old School and RuneScape 3, and was currently a subscriber only version that had low 100s on the servers. Based on Jagex’s announcement, RuneScape Classic will go offline as of August 6th 2018.

We’ll miss you, RuneScape Classic, RIP.
