Once again, Walmart has wound up jumping the gun with a game’s announcement. Team Sonic Racing, a new racing game from Sega, was leaked earlier this week a few days before Sega officially announced the game.
Obvious Jokes about Sonic in a Car
Walmart seems to have a bit of a problem with leaking big games as of late. Just a couple of weeks after Walmart Canada leaked a variety of games, including Rage 2, the gaming forum site ResetEra found something interesting. That something happened to be some Switch box art and screenshots depicting Sonic, Shadow, and other characters racing in cars. Shortly after the leak was announced by Kotaku, Sega officially announced the game.
Originally teased back in March, Team Sonic Racing will be developed by Sumo Digital. They were the team behind 2010’s Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and 2012’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Team Sonic Racing will share many features from Sumo’s older titles, including Grand Prix, Exhibition, and Time Trial modes. There will also be a Team Adventure mode, online 12 player multiplayer, and local split screen for four players.
The product details show that there will be fifteen characters in the game, and races will involve teams of three. Players will use power-ups based off of the Wisps from Sonic Colors. They can and also unleash special moves called Team Ultimates to turn the tide of the race.
Team Sonic Racing is scheduled to be released sometime this winter on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Expect more details to arrive at E3 2018.
