Another new season of Syfy’s hit competition Face Off has begun. As with every season, 16 special effects make-up artists vie for the final contest to win exclusive prizes that a make-up artist would kill for. However, as host, Mckenzie Westmore stated, “they’re changing it up.”
Syfy, of course, had to change things up as they are bringing back contestants from the twelve previous seasons. To make the competition more exciting and challenging to these seasoned artists, of course, the difficulty had to be ramped up.
Each week, artists will battle it out with another artist, each creating their own interpretation of the weekly spotlight challenge. From there, program judges, Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, and Neville Page, plus the occasional guest judge will determine best and worst looks. In previous seasons, someone was usually eliminated each week, but due to the individual battles, Face Off will be eliminating an artist every other week. So, does that mean the artists can take a breather every other week? Not if they want the rare advantage of gaining the help of an industry expert, the prize for being a weekly winner in these off weeks.
As this is Face Off’s 13th season, there will be an emphasis on horror and monster make-up challenges. This week was not a disappointment.
Needless to say, the competition was pretty fierce, yet the artists still maintained that comradery and teamwork that is so rare in other competitions. The hour flew by as the audience was marveled and entertained by the artistry of the competitors.
Face Off airs Tuesdays at 9:00 pm EDT. Don’t miss it!
