As fans of Game of Thrones may already know, the final season of the insanely popular series isn’t set to return to our television sets until 2019. According The Verge, this intentional delay was meant to give HBO time to come up with a plan for what comes next.
Trust me, they did not disappoint.
The network recently announced that it has green-lit a pilot episode for one of the five spin-offs under consideration. Said to be a prequel, the show will be written by Jane Goodman (Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class) and A Song of Ice & Fire author George R.R. Martin.
The new series does not yet have a title but the details are enough to make any die-hard fan drool. Per an official synopsis released by HBO:
“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”
We’ll keep you posted on any new Game of Thrones news.
