Black Manta has been unveiled for the upcoming Aquaman, Council of the Kings movie. The pirate and mercenary will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Black Manta Revealed
Black Manta, a well known pirate, mercenary and villain to Aquaman will be featured in the standalone movie. A new photo has revealed what the infamous enemy will look like in the film.
For the film, Black Manta is the secondary antagonist, taking second behind King Orm. A name change has occurred for the film going from the traditional David Hyde of the comics to David Kane. The suit remains traditional, down to the plasma beams shooting from the eyes.
“He’s part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space,” director James Wan said, “Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story, but our main story is about Jason and Patrick.”
Although the film’s main focus is on the two half brothers conflicts, Black Manta will provide an interesting twist and force Aquaman to focus on two threats that put his people in danger and threaten his kingdom.
Jason Momoa plays Aquaman and Patrick Wilson plays King Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Black Manta. Also making an appearance are Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.
Aquaman will release December 21, 2018.
