Strange fans can rest easy tonight as Kevin Feige, producer and president of Marvel Studios confirms that Doctor Strange 2 is happening. During an interview of Marvel Studios newest release, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Feige admitted that there will indeed be a sequel to the dashing caped mystic.
While there are other films on the roster, such as sequels for Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and a new film for Black Widow, he stated that Doctor Strange would be getting more airtime.
This announcement may come as a surprise as at the end of Avengers: Infinity War he disintegrated along with many of his fellow superheroes. Like all things in the Marvel universe, there’s bound to be some sort of “undo” switch. The new film is expected to take place a few years later, with an older, and perhaps wiser Doctor Strange.
Other rumors that surfaced earlier this year was the hint of a possible villain Dr. Strange would encounter. Writer C. Robert Cargill revealed that Nightmare would be the next baddie to battle wits with the caped hero. Nightmare also harnesses mystical powers; however, he gains his powers and sustenance from humans and is classified more like a demon. His first appearance was in Strange Tales #110 in 1963. As in the comics, Dr. Strange is the only one who can successfully thwart Nightmare, his being the main villain seems a safe bet. If true, Doctor Strange 2 should be another thrilling saga for moviegoers.
