A New Firefly Comic Book Series is Coming!

Brownouts get ready to take to the skies again! Boom! Studios now has the rights to create and publish comic books based on the one-season wonder that is Firefly.

A New Firefly Series is Coming!

Boom! Studios is starting big with Joss Whedon’s Firefly. The studio is starting the new comic book series with Firefly #1 which starts from the beginning with the War of Unification. The war takes place between the Alliance and the Independents. This war is where Malcolm Reynolds and Zoe Alleyne Washburn met and fought together against the Alliance. It’s the war that gave Serenity her name.

In a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon commented that “It’s high time we got to see the full story of Mal and Zoe’s meeting and the mission in the War of Unification – the good and bad that the pressure of war brings out in them, and the unforeseeable consequences.” Whedon will remain part of the wonderful universe he created by being a consultant for the new series. This should promise that the tales of the verses’ favorite heres are told exactly as they should be.

The comic book series has been under the publisher Dark Horse Comics for a multitude of year and Boom! Studios plans to honor the other studio. The studio will be reprinting the Dark Horse Comics Firefly series as Firefly Legacy Editions. Greg Pak will be writing the story and Dan McDaid will provide the art.

Firefly touched the hearts and minds everywhere, despite only lasting one season and with a movie following it. Boom! Studios has every intention of honoring the love that fans have for the series and all of the characters. Exploring and digging into the gut wrenching, galaxy alternating event that was the Unification War will show fans the different sides of the characters they have come to love and admire and learn what makes their favorites the way they are.
