Following their trend of surprising fans with information, Lucasfilm have once again dropped a massive surprise by revealing casting and filming information for the highly anticipated conclusion to the Skywalker Saga in Star Wars Episode IX.
Through a video released on their YouTube channel, Star Wars have revealed that Episode IX of the franchise will begin filming August 1st. Also revealed in the video is the addition of new cast of Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant, who will be joining Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Jon Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran.
Perhaps the most shocking reveal of the video is that Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will both reprise their roles for the conclusion. Fisher, who tragically passed in late 2016, was set to be one of the main focuses of episode IX. it has been revealed that her role will be comprised of shots taken for 2015’s The Force Awakens that never made the final cut. Also among the reveals is conformation that Billy D. Williams will finally return to the galaxy far far away.
Star Wars Episode IX is set to hit theatres sometime in 2019, and will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens.
