It’s been some time since anyone’s mentioned a new addition to Timesplitters, a trilogy of well-loved console games from the early 2000s. Now, it seems new life is being breathed into the arcade-style series.
So far, two prior attempts had been made to create a fourth installment. The first, started by the original developers at Free Radical Design, ended after the company went under. Later, Crytek UK bought the rights to the Timesplitters franchise sometime and began development on Timesplitters 4 but this attempt also ran out of steam.
Today, a new company acquired the rights to the arcade-style game. And in its new home with Koch Media, a subsidiary of THQ Nordic, hints of a possible new installment are already flying. Based on a quote from CEO Klemens Kundratitz, it appears the company intends to make good on those early promises of a fourth game.
We have many fans of the Timesplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill todays gaming audience.
Whether or not it actually happens remains to be seen but it certainly is a tantalizing prospect!
