Edmund McMillen Teases More Binding of Isaac

It seems like indie creator Edmund McMillen may have some plans left for The Binding of Isaac after all. He’s posted a tweet that has fans abuzz as it teases something called The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Something old or something new?

When the final booster pack update for The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + was released a few months ago, it seemed like the long-supported top-down roguelike was finally ending. However, we might be getting a bit more of the bible-thumping crybaby. At 3:23 AM EST, Edmund posted this on his official Twitter:

Other than a title, it doesn’t seem like it’s giving much information. However, the logo’s similarity to a different project’s logo has piqued the interest of fans:

Released on December 23, 2016, The Binding of Isaac: Antibirth is a fan-made mod for the base version of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. It acts as an “alternate” expansion separate from Afterbirth and Afterbirth +, so you can’t use those expansions with Antibirth. Among the new things added to the game are alternate floors, a new final boss with ending cutscene, and two characters with unique gameplay mechanics. There’s Bethany (named after the biblical town,) who uses soul hearts to power active items instead of health. We also have Jacob and Esau (the biblical Isaac’s twin sons). You control both twins at the same time, they have separate health and collect items separately, and they both die if one loses all of their health. There was also a third character based off of Edith (Lot’s wife,) but her teleportation gimmick was too difficult to work out.

The website last updated on December 21, 2017, which promised a new update late February or early March. It has since gone silent. It wouldn’t be too surprising if Edmund and the team teamed up to fully integrate the mod to the base game.

Meanwhile, the card game based off of Isaac will be arriving sometime this November.

6:30 AM EST, 9/1: Edmund McMillen has confirmed that Repentance is including the Antibirth mod.
