Netflix’s Witcher Adaptation Casts Henry Cavill

Netflix’s Witcher Adaptation Casts Henry Cavill

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of The Witcher has found its actor, though hopefully this time he comes with 100% less CGI-de-mustaching.

Following a month of subtle hints and public desire to play the famous monster hunter, Superman himself, Henry Cavill, has been cast as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game saga, The Witcher. This is not the first adaptation of The Witcher, as the video game saga is an actual adaptation of a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The news was first reported early this morning, but was confirmed by Cavill on Instagram via a fun post involving him changing his Netflix account name to that of his character; “Geralt of Rivia.”

It would appear that Cavill knew a bit more than he was leading fans to believe back when he first expressed interest in the part. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confirmed she first met with Cavill four months ago for the part.

The Witcher arrives on Netflix sometime in 2019 or 2020, and its 8-episode debut season will be helmed by Daredevil and Defenders showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
