Chinese publisher Tencent’s battle royale shooter, Ring of Elysium, is coming soon to Steam players in the West.
The Rise of Battle Royale
In a time when games like Fortnite, PUBG, H1Z1, and Realm Royale are dominating, there is a huge market for new battle royale games. However, with so many pre-established titles already in the public eye, the market can sometimes feel over-saturated. Ring of Elysium looks to try and stay true to the overall format of the hunt, kill, and survive aspect of battle royale games while setting themselves apart in different ways.
First and foremost, unlike other BR games, Ring of Elysium allows up to four people to win each round. Instead of being the last surviving member, players are fighting for a seat on a helicopter that has only four seats available. Your goal is to make sure you claim one of those seats before anyone else does, by any means possible.
While other games have toxic gas or storms causing the field to shrink, Ring of Elysium has implemented a weather system where dropping temperatures will cause players to abandon certain areas of the map and force them to confront one another. Furthermore, sporadic avalanches will be something players must keep an eye out for as these can destroy buildings and kill any players unfortunate enough to be caught in their path.
To help you along your journey, you will have tools that will allow you to cross the unforgiving terrain such as an ice ax that lets you climb walls, a snowboard to traverse mountains, and a hang glider that seems to let you take to the skies. Players will also have terrain specific vehicles they are able to find to help them move across the map faster such as ATVs and snowmobiles.
Ring of Elysium will be free to play and is set to release Wednesday, September 19 on Steam Early Access. If you’d like to check it out yourself, visit the Steam page.
