Among the many games and news shown during last night’s Nintendo Direct, Game Freak, the developer behind Pokémon, unveiled a trailer for a new RPG. This RPG is tentatively titled Town and it’s currently set to be on the Nintendo Switch.
Few details so far.
The game Town takes place in what looks like a peaceful fantasy video game town. However, the town in Town is being beset by monsters, something Game Freak is known for. Sadly, these monsters don’t seem nearly as friendly as your average pocket monster. Players will have to fight them off in RPG-style battles to protect the town. We also get to see a few of the main characters. There’s the red-haired protagonist-type, as well as an inventor-looking character named Nez or Nezu (the trailer uses both spellings).
This isn’t the first time Game Freak has made a game outside of the Pokémon franchise. They’ve done a variety of games, such as the solitaire/horse racing game Pocket Card Jockey for the Nintendo 3DS, a Drill Dozer game for the Game Boy Advance, and the action adventure game Giga Wrecker for Steam.
There aren’t many other obvious details about Town, but it’s slated for a 2019 release. We’ll keep you updated on the game as more details become available.
