Despite their troubles, Telltale Games released Episode Two of The Walking Dead: The Final Season yesterday. However, those looking to buy the game will find that digital stores no longer allow the game to be purchased.
Undead or just dead?
Originally reported by Techraptor, various digital storefronts are delisting The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Players who bought the Season Pass originally can still play the new episode, but newer players can’t join in the story. The game’s removal was first noticed by a Twitter user named ‘@Nitomatta’:
Instead of releasing Episode 2 of The Walking Dead: The Final Season on Steam… Telltale straight up delisted the game for purchase.

Indeed, every platform but the Switch (which is likely to change soon) is no longer selling the season pass for The Final Season. It’s the only way to purchase that season, unlike previous seasons where individual episodes can be bought. Accessing the PSN/Xbox Marketplace or Steam page for The Walking Dead: The Final Season only give the option to download the demo. Meanwhile, the game’s GOG page has a bit of information on what’s happening:
Telltale has requested a temporary pause of sales of The Walking Dead – Final Season. For all up to date Telltale news, please refer to their official Twitter page.
Telltale’s move here seems to be a sensible move. On one hand, it’s still very uncertain if The Final Season will be completed. If it’s not possible, selling copies when the game’s future isn’t likely will only alienate them from their customers. On the other hand, pulling the game isn’t exactly a move of confidence. Especially when there was no notice of the game’s delisting.
The Walking Dead: The Final Chapter Episode Two is currently not for sale, and it’s uncertain when it will return.
Update (5:36 EST 9/27)
A Telltale spokesperson provided a statement to Kotaku on why the games have been delisted:
Yes, we have removed season passes for The Walking Dead: The Final Season from stores for the time being. We’re currently still working to find a way to hand off production of episodes 3 and 4 so that the season can be completed. The outcome of those efforts will determine when and how The Final Season returns to stores. We hope to have a firm announcement before the end of the week. For now, we apologize for any inconvenience.
