The mobile creature collecting game Pokémon Go has been slowly adding more to its roster over the years. In a recent video, Niantic has teased the addition of Gen 4 Pokémon to the game.
Diamonds are forever.
The new trailer shows off some nature footage and tells us that “amazing creatures are awakening.” It also shows hints of four of the Gen 4 Pokémon that will show up soon. There’s the fiery monkey starter Chimchar, the leafy turtle starter Turtwig, the bubbly penguin starter Piplup, and the legendary Giratina.
The Gen 4 Pokémon hail from the Sinnoh region of the Pokémon world, introduced in the 2006 DS games Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The game was the first one to appear on the DS system, and it made usage of the system’s wireless connectivity for trading and other fun features.
The trailer doesn’t mention when we can expect the new Pokémon. However, the Pokémon website’s announcement also listed some in-game changes to various systems:
Moving forward, the weather feature will have a reduced effect on the rate at which Pokémon appear.
As you explore a given area, you will notice that a greater variety of Pokémon species will appear over time and at different rates.
Certain areas, such as parks and nature reserves, will now contain more varied Pokémon species.
The Pokémon Company is also planning some other changes. These include balancing some various values.
