It would seem that the defender of Kun Lun will never find his way back to the sacred city, as Netflix and Marvel have announced that no third season will come for their worst rated show.Despite massive improvements in the sophomore season, Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix, making it the first of Marvel and Netflix’s joint creations to end.
According to Deadline:
“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” said the Disney-owned comic giant and the streamer in a joint statement to Deadline today. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners,” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”
Judging by the fact that they claim the Iron Fist will live on, it would seem that any future for the show lies in Disney’s streaming service, expected to debut next year. This sets a deadly precedent for Netflix, as any show that fails to perform could very easily be moved to the ever-growing Disney roster.
Taking over from the Iron Fist in defending New York, Daredevil returns to Netflix this Friday, Jessica Jones has a third season on the way, The Punisher is set to have a second season sometime early next year, and Luke Cage is expected to have the guaranteed third season confirmed any day now.
