Plans for a live-action reboot of Disney’s animated classic The Lion King has been in the works for some time. Now, the first trailer has finally been released!
Return to the Pride Lands
After the successful releases of other live-action reboots, Disney has set their focus on one of their biggest classics, The Lion King. Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story) is set to star as adult Simba with Beyonce Knowles-Carter (Dreamgirls) taking on the role of Nala, Simba’s love interest. James Earl Jones (Star Wars) who was the original voice actor of Mufasa, Simba’s father, is set to reprise his role in the live-action version of the film. It was an iconic role for him, so it’s very exciting having him back. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) is set to play the villainous Scar, Simba’s uncle.
The original animated film was a musical, and we see that reflected in the trailer as the Circle of Life plays throughout the end which showcases part of the opening from the original film. Considering how many of the songs became huge parts of many of our childhoods, it would be a let down for them to also not be featured in the reboot as well. The Lion King, like Beauty and the Beast before it, is also a Broadway show, so extra songs are likely to be added to the new film as well. The Lion King is set to release in theaters on July 19, 2019. Check out the trailer below.
