At the Game Awards last night, Nintendo unveiled the first DLC Character Pack for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Joker, from Persona 5, will be joining the roster sometime next year as the game’s 76th fighter.
Taking your heart
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases today, but last night, we got our first look at who to expect from the game’s Character Packs. As it turns out, we should expect the unexpected with a new crossover fighter. Reggie Fils-Aimé, the President of Nintendo of America, said to everyone:
This gives you a flavor of how we’re approaching the DLC. These are going to be characters that are new to the series, just like Joker from Persona 5, characters that you would not anticipate to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
We can still hold out hope that someone from Rhythm Heaven gets in. Or Waluigi, if you love all the memes.
Joker represents the first of five DLC Character Packs that will release for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (plus Piranha Plant). Each pack comes with a new character, a stage, and some music. Individually, the packs cost $6, but if you buy the game’s Fighter Pass for $25, you’ll get each one as they release.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases today, December 7, on the Nintendo Switch. The Joker DLC will arrive sometime early next year, likely after the expected February 2019 release of Piranha Plant.
