In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Amie spoke about the possibility Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Nintendo Switch. According to him, the reason the game isn’t on the Switch is due to the game’s long development time.
“We’d love for it to be there.”
Reggie’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter touched upon a wide variety of topics. The topics included Nintendo’s recent success during Black Friday and the future of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When interviewer Patrick Shanley asked about maintaining established brands and courting third-party developers, that led to the topic of having Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch. Reggie said he’d love to have it on the Switch, However, he had to point out an important fact about the game’s development process:
Red Dead has been in development for years, time that predated any communication of Nintendo Switch. So, from the developer’s mentality, they need to move forward and finish the game they’ve been working on and then be in a position to look at other opportunities. Any game from a key third-party that’s coming out now, typically that development started well before any conversations about Nintendo Switch. What happens moving forward? We’ll see. But that’s how you wind up with a situation with Red Dead not being available on our platform.
