Following almost a year of fan petitions on both sides of the debate, Marvel have come to a decision: James Gunn will return to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The news, courtesy of THR, states that Gunn was rehired to the project months ago, when speculation as to who would serve as his replacement was running rampant. Gunn, has been almost completely silent on social media since his firing, tweeted a statement expressing his gratitude.

Gunn is expected to complete DC’s The Suicide Squad before work resumes on Guardians Vol. 3. Currently, with Idris Elba set to star and a 2021 release date, it could be a few years before fans and critics alike get to see Gunn’s return to the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe.
